One of the few "WB" teen alums to successfully make the leap to a long-lasting film career, Jessica Biel aimed big and achieved it with a down-to-earth, hardworking approach. Rising to fame as the wholesome preacher's daughter on the WB television show 7th Heaven, Biel then gained greater notoriety for trying to get herself kicked off the show via a risqué photo spread in the men's magazine Gear. She has since starred in many films including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Blade: Trinity (2004), I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (2007), The A-Team (2010), and New Year's Eve (2011). Positive attention from men's magazines and her well-publicized relationship with likable megastar Justin Timberlake helped position Biel as the strong, smart girl next door. Balancing her beauty with physical strength as well as a willingness to work hard and earn her acting stripes, Biel continued to outlast many of her flashier contemporaries.
She was born on March 3, 1982, in Ely, Minnesota to Kimberly (née Conroe), a homemaker and spiritual healer, and Jonathan Biel who worked for GE and was also an entrepreneur and business consultant. Biel was raised in Boulder, Colorado. She was first discovered at the 1994 IMTA Los Angeles Convention, which earned her a scholarship to Diane Hardin's Young Actors Space in Los Angeles. Teen print modeling followed, and in 1996, Biel began her run as Mary Camden on the Aaron Spelling-produced 7th Heaven. Shortly thereafter, she was cast as Peter Fonda's granddaughter in Victor Nunez's rich character study, Ulee's Gold (1997), and as Jonathan Taylor Thomas' love interest in I'll Be Home for Christmas(1998).
